Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
๐ Short version: ChatHive is designed for privacy. We collect as little data as possible, we don't require registration, and all chat sessions are temporary. We do not sell your data.
1. Who We Are
ChatHive is a free anonymous chat service that allows users to create temporary, private chat rooms without registering an account. These rooms exist in server memory only and are automatically deleted after 24 hours of inactivity or when the session ends.
2. What Data We Collect
Because ChatHive requires no account or sign-up, we collect very minimal information:
- IP addresses โ temporarily stored in server memory for rate-limiting (to prevent abuse) and security purposes. These are not written to any permanent database or logs.
- Nicknames โ the display name you choose when creating or joining a room. This is optional and can be anything. We do not verify or link it to any identity.
- Messages and files โ stored in server memory only for the duration of your session so late-joining users can see recent chat history. Once the session ends or the server restarts, all messages and files are permanently deleted.
- Session metadata โ including room creation time, room type (private or group), and approximate user count, used only for service functionality.
We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, real names, location data, device identifiers, cookies, or any persistent personal data.
3. Cookies and Tracking
ChatHive does not use any tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics. The only browser storage we use is localStorage to remember your light/dark theme preference โ this data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking tools.
4. How Long We Keep Your Data
All session data (messages, nicknames, files) exists only in server memory and is erased when:
- The session is manually ended by a participant
- The room has been inactive for 30 minutes (auto-timeout)
- The server is restarted or redeployed
IP address rate-limit records are automatically cleared after 1 hour. Admin activity logs are capped at 2,000 entries and cycle out automatically.
5. File Uploads
Files shared within a chat room are temporarily stored on the server so other participants can download them. Files are stored under a randomly generated filename with no connection to your identity. Files are deleted when the session ends or when the server is restarted. Do not upload sensitive, private, or personal files โ they may be accessible to anyone with the room link during the session.
6. Who Can See Your Messages
Only people who have your room code or join link can access your chat room. ChatHive does not monitor, read, or moderate message content in real time. Server administrators can access stored messages through an admin panel for the purposes of abuse prevention only.
Important: ChatHive does not offer end-to-end encryption. Messages are transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit) but stored temporarily in server memory in plaintext. Do not share passwords, financial details, or highly sensitive personal information in any chat room.
7. Third-Party Services
ChatHive loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Google may log the request to their servers; please review Google's Privacy Policy for details. No other third-party services are loaded.
8. Children's Privacy
ChatHive is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the service to share sensitive information, please contact us.
9. Your Rights
Because we do not collect or store personal data linked to your identity, most data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) do not apply in a traditional sense โ we simply have no way to look up "your" data. If you are concerned about a specific session, ending the session from within the chat room immediately purges all associated data from server memory.
10. Security
ChatHive uses HTTPS for all communications, rate limiting to prevent abuse, input sanitization to prevent XSS attacks, and Content Security Policy headers. Despite these precautions, no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Use ChatHive accordingly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ChatHive after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or concerns about your data, you can reach us by visiting chathive.online. As ChatHive is a fully anonymous service, we are unable to look up specific sessions or messages without additional identifying information.
